Warmer

As the weather gets warmer and warmer, I gradually put my winter clothes in the closet.

It’s normal to change clothes in the closet. You need to adjust to the different seasons. While traveling, you have to prepare clothes that fit the local weather and culture.

A few months ago, a friend sent me a message, asking me if I was available the next day. I have a Costco membership card and she would like to buy some clothes at Costco. She will travel to Northeast China very soon. The weather is really cold in that region in the winter. She went there once before and she certainly knows how cold it is. Hence, she would like to stay warm during the trip and wanted to buy thermal underwear.

However, things were a bit different when I was in Boston. I went to Boston with some friends for a conference in February. Winter in Boston, well, it’s certainly cold. We decided to meet in the lobby of a guesthouse and walked to a convention center. I put on a down coat. Nonetheless, a friend from India just wore a suit. I asked him if he felt cold. He said no. Walking on the street, it seems that he was ok. Well, he was the only one without a coat.

For me, traveling in the winter, a key problem is about packing winter clothes. Normally, those clothes are heavier and need more space in the luggage. I always have to think a lot before packing because I want to use the luggage space wisely. I don’t want to pack too many clothes, but I want to stay warm during a trip. Moreover, I need some spaces just in case I have to buy souvenirs. In the end, I figured out that the best way is to pack 2 or 3 winter clothes. Then, I would check the location of local clothing stores, which are affordable. If I really need another pair of clothes, I can buy an affordable one.
