Credit card/debit card

I was in Brazil. A friend and I were in a supermarket. We decided to buy something as souvenirs for our friends and family.

However, there was a problem. It seemed that I didn’t have enough cash. I asked my friend if she could do me a favor. Well, I don’t know the situation now. But back then, there was a commission fee by using a credit card to pay.

I didn’t have other choices. So, my friend paid for me first with her credit card. I transferred money to her after she calculated all the fees.

For me, it was an interesting lesson. Firstly, I didn’t manage my budget well. I didn’t notice that I actually spent a lot during that trip. In addition, I didn’t realize that I didn’t have enough money in my debit card. Hence, when I ran out of cash, I had to ask my friend to do me a favor. Moreover, I didn’t check carefully about using a credit card locally. In some countries, it’s very convenient to pay by credit card. You don’t need to pay a commission fee. Nevertheless, in some countries, you have to pay a commission fee. Well, that’s extra cost and I could use the money for other things.

And there’s one more thing. I used to face a situation, which was that the credit card/ debit machine wasn’t functioning well or the system was under maintenance. I couldn’t use it and I didn’t have cash. Unfortunately, I had to leave those things at the counter.

So, now, when I travel, I certainly will prepare a certain amount of money. Of course, I will have my credit card or debit card with me. I will check the credit card policy carefully and decide which payment might be the best option. Sometimes, you might get rewards by using certain credit cards.
