A couple of months ago, I had a job interview. I prepared a lot, however, I didn’t perform well in the interview.
I got a “thank you” letter. When I reflect on this interview, I think that I made the same mistake that I did several years ago.
Back then, I took a trip to Florida. Nonetheless, a company’s HR asked me for an interview. For me, I really don’t want to do an interview while traveling. Nonetheless, the HR didn’t want to wait and I didn’t have other choices. I lived in a hotel and I asked a hotel staffer if there was a quiet room. A major problem was that the wifi connection in my hotel room was so bad.
The hotel staffer told me that I could use a meeting room there. So, I conducted the interview in the meeting room. The HR asked me about a challenge in my career. And I answered with a story that I thought was a challenging one. Well, I didn’t explain it well.
In the end, the company didn’t move me to another round of the interview. And for me, there are 2 key things. Firstly, I would never conduct a job interview during a trip. It would just ruin my trip. Additionally, I didn’t explain that story well and I have to use other stories. I have to construct other stories well.
By conducting a job interview, I can reflect on my career and review what I have done. But for me, the same interview mistake was unacceptable and I have to avoid doing it again. Nonetheless, that helped me recall a story about a trip. Additionally, it’s clear that I didn’t prepare well. Those are the key things. I know how to prepare to travel. Nevertheless, preparing for a job interview, I need to do more.
