Metro noise

Taking a metro is quite common for many people in daily life. While traveling, it’s not a surprise that many people will choose to take a metro to different destinations.

Moreover, taking a metro is also a good way to experience a city or a country. When I arrived in Tokyo 10 years ago, a friend who traveled with me kept emphasizing that we had to be quiet on the metro or on a train. Thus, on the metro, we didn’t really talk much. If we wanted to say something, we were making sure that we lowered our voices.

However, in some countries, the experience of taking a metro is quite different. When I was in Paris or Barcelona, we could hear someone playing a violin in a metro station. Additionally, some might get on the metro to play the violin and you can decide if you would like to “pay/donate”.

Each country has its own culture and you can see the differences even when you take a metro. In Japan, you can feel the silence on the metro and for me, it was ideal to take a break on the metro. Sometimes, I might take a nap on the train. Nonetheless, in some European countries, it’s better not to take a nap on the metro if you travel alone. But, you can just chat with your friends on the metro and in particular, you might be able to know whether that day is a holiday because on the metro, you can easily know that people are ready to party. I don’t know if many people like to see a violinist perform on the metro. But, for me, if a violinist performs very well, it’s actually quite enjoyable to listen to some good music. Nonetheless, sometimes, a violinist is equipped with a bad speaker and it’s quite noisy.
