Air conditioner

It’s summertime. Now, it should be hot or maybe really hot in some areas and many people decided to turn on the air conditioner. However, in some places, you couldn’t find an air conditioner.

I used to stay in Barcelona in the summer and in that summer, it was one of the hottest summers in history. Normally, I don't go out after lunch and have to stay inside. I did turn on the fan, however, there wasn’t an air conditioner in the room. The air conditioner was only in the living room. Growing up in Southeast Asia, it's been getting hotter recently and air conditioners are quite common in most rooms. In particular, when I was in college, each dormitory room had its own air conditioner. Hence, I was thinking that an air conditioner in a room should be quite common in Europe as well. However, things are not exactly as expected. But, now, I understand why an air conditioner is not set in each room.

A few years ago, I was traveling to Brazil for a friend’s wedding. After the wedding, we traveled to Rio together. A friend booked a very nice apartment near a beach in Rio. The location is really good and we can just walk a block to the beach and we can easily walk to some stores or restaurants nearby.

Interestingly, my room is quite big with a double bed, so I can easily leave my luggage and don’t worry whether there is enough space. Moreover, there’s an air conditioner in the room. At the beginning, I didn’t notice that there was an air conditioner. A friend just indicated that I could turn the air conditioner on if it's too hot. Nonetheless, there wasn’t an air conditioner in another room and another friend was unhappy that she didn’t live in a room with air conditioning. Well, I wasn’t responsible for room allocation.
