Miscommunication

This might happen during a trip. In particular, we probably use a second language to communicate while traveling. It was my first trip to Italy. I was staying at a hostel in Roma. One day, I was staying in the hostel and chatted with some people who were also traveling in Italy. We were talking about our countries, what we studied, our favorite football teams and some other topics. A staff member that worked at the hostel restaurant joined us as well. When we were talking, a woman was walking into the restaurant. The staff, who were talking to us, told the woman that the restaurant was not open. Then, a man came and indicated that the staff at the counter told them that the restaurant was open and they could go to get some food. The restaurant staff waved his hands helplessly, saying that “I know, but my boss is stupid, he doesn’t want to operate today.” The man, who would like to have dinner at the restaurant, angrily indicated that the woman at the counter told us again. Well, there was nothing in the restaurant and the couple left unhappily. The couple is from India, the restaurant staff and the restaurant boss are both Italians, the woman at the counter is from Italy as well. The restaurant was supposed to open, however, it wasn’t operated and the woman at the counter didn’t know that. Actually, the restaurant staff told us that his boss sometimes did this without notifying. Some friends and I were standing there and didn’t know what to do. We were like the restaurant staff and didn’t understand why his boss made a decision like this. Additionally, he didn’t even communicate with the staff at the hostel. I only stayed at that hostel for a few days. After several years, I’m just interested to know whether this miscommunication still happens in that hostel.
