New Year Celebrations

Budapest

It’s 2021. Happy New Year. 2020 was a tough year for people to travel due to Covid-19. Thankfully, we already waved goodbye to 2020. I didn’t do much but just watched some shows online and chatted with some good friends. Well, I just remember some good and fun memories about traveling on New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day.

Watching fireworks is quite common for people to celebrate the New Year. Taipei 101, Taiwan’s iconic skyscraper, always gives very spectacular fireworks every year. Since it’s a skyscraper, watching the firework show in different corners of the city and at different angles would give you totally different experiences.

A few years ago, I was with some friends in Washington D.C. and we had hot pot dinner and later took a train to Alexandria, Virginia. We went to the riverside and watched the New Year’s fireworks. The firework show was pretty amazing. However, after the fireworks, we got lost with some friends and our phones were low on battery. So we decided to go to the train station and stayed there. Thankfully, after a while, they all came.

Another time, I was traveling to Budapest. My friend and I were in the city center on New Year’s Eve. It was crowded and people were cheering and couldn’t stop celebrating. That atmosphere was pretty awesome and it seemed that people just couldn’t wait for the New Year. I was excited but couldn’t stay there for a long time. The next day, we had to wake up early to take a bus to another city. We headed to the house, which I booked on the airbnb, and we could hear the fireworks loudly in the room.

A new year, people surely have new plans and some goals to achieve. Planning to travel is always a good idea, however, it may not be ideal to travel in 2021 since there are still many covid-19 cases and there are many travel restrictions. But, we can plan. Hopefully, we will travel safely soon.
