“Dove”. A friend taught me this. I asked him to teach me some Italian words before I took a trip to Italy.
He’d been working in Italy for a while and speaks Italian fluently. Well, after several years, this is a word that I still remember. If I decide to take a trip to a foreign country, I will practice a few words before taking a trip. In my opinion, it’s a way to respect the local culture and it could make things easier when I visit a foreign country.
Well, I don’t remember how many times I spoke Italian on that trip. However, it was fun to learn a little bit about Italian. At least I still remember one word.
I’m glad that I traveled to several countries and I’ve learned some words in several languages. For example, I learn to say “Thank you” in several languages. Being polite isn’t a bad idea while traveling. For instance, I used to visit Brazil and one time, I saw a staff member smile after I said “Obrigado.” Hence, I surely know that it’s important to use this word.
Nonetheless, an important thing is pronunciation. You have to avoid some words that sound “weird” or “rude”. This might be something hard because you don’t really know the language. Hence, before taking a trip, it would be ideal to do some work to know what should be avoided.
For me, the most important thing is to enjoy a trip and see a country, and I think that learning a few words of the local language will be helpful. Of course, it will be even better if you can communicate in the local language. Sometimes, things change from here. For instance, a friend took a trip to Japan. After the trip, she began to study Japanese and now he can communicate in Japanese easily.
