change money?

A teacher gave me some US dollars. She asked me to buy some gifts in Australia.

She indicated that she didn’t have Australian dollars in hand. She asked me to learn how to change money in Australia. In the end, I did change money. However, I made a huge mistake. I changed money in the airport.

Well, it was actually when I was in high school. I didn’t even truly understand what the exchange rate was. Now, looking back, it’s a great lesson. For me, if there are any other options, I will choose not to change money in the airport. However, sometimes, I don’t have other choices.

In addition, a friend told me that he has changed a lot of Japanese yen because Japanese yen is cheap. Sure, you can change money easily by using the banking service provided by a local bank in your region. But you have to be careful that some currencies are not available in some banks.

However, after traveling to several countries, I’m just wondering one thing. Do we really have to change money? If you travel to some countries, for example, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Norway and so on, you probably don’t need cash or much cash because credit card and mobile payments work almost everywhere. Additionally, if you search for information carefully, some rewards by using credit cards are actually very good. If you pay in cash, you won’t get the rewards.

I’m changing some money because I plan to take a trip to Japan. Nevertheless, I’m still thinking if I truly need so much cash with me while traveling. Should I just prepare a small amount of money this time? I guess that I can just use a credit card or debit card most of the time. And I’ll surely try this time to see how things work. If it works well, I will change my plans next time.
