failure

I was chatting with a friend and his wife in a Starbucks store. We talked about a trip that we used to take. He still remembers a goal that I told him.

Back then, we were in a cottage in the summer. We just enjoyed our holidays and I told my friend that I would like to visit 40 countries by the end of 2025. So far, I have visited 33 countries. Hence, I couldn’t reach 40 countries by the end of this year.

Failed. Yes, I failed. I couldn’t reach this goal. Nonetheless, I certainly have learned a lot from this failure. I tried a lot and visited a lot of countries. A few years ago, I always chose some countries that I had never visited before. The good thing is that I can visit many countries that I never thought about. And I’m really glad to see something new.

For me, back then, all I wanted was to visit something new. Nonetheless, I didn’t spend enough time visiting some cities that are worthwhile to stay longer. That’s something I ignored previously. There are several cities or countries that are worthwhile to visit. And it would be better to spend a longer time. There are many corners and places that you can explore.

So, I changed my style of traveling. I used to like to visit new countries and visiting a new country was the only thing or a key thing for me. Nonetheless, gradually, I learned that it’s good to stay in a city or a town for a while. Slowing down isn’t a bad idea. I can experience and explore a city. I don’t have to spend much time on transportation. Well, I failed. But I learned. It’s a good lesson. I now know more about planning a trip and managing my budget. And, the most important thing, I learn to enjoy a trip.
