good for the environment?

I read news about traveling a few weeks ago. Many tourists complained about the cost of living in a hotel.

The main reason is that now, most hotels don’t provide disposable toiletries. Hence, tourists have to prepare some toiletries when they stay in a hotel. Nonetheless, they still pay the same amount of money to stay in a hotel for a night. Well, the rate doesn’t change.

That’s something worth debating. When we choose to stay in a hotel, we probably don’t expect to prepare toiletries because we know that those things will be provided by a hotel. However, those disposable toiletries normally create a lot of waste and for the environment, it’s not ideal.

On one hand, hotels’ purpose isn’t a bad one. They implement the policy because of sustainability and avoiding waste. On the other hand, tourists have a good reason. Now they have to prepare more stuff during a trip. But they still pay the same.

For me, during a trip, I normally prepare toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste and facial cleanser. Nonetheless, shampoo and shower gel are not on the list. So, I normally expect to see that a hotel would provide shampoo and shower gel. And now, most hotels provide wall mounted shampoo or shower gel because they are refillable and generate less waste. That looks quite reasonable.

Nonetheless, if a hotel doesn’t provide shampoo and shower gel, I will probably choose another one if there are other options in the neighborhood. Travel sustainable or sustainable tourism isn’t a new concept. Lots of hotels have implemented the policy related to this concept for many years. Nevertheless, an important thing is to communicate with the travelers and tourists to let them know the impact. Additionally, there must be something to upgrade for travelers to feel the value.
